The exhibition “Akshar” | “Shabd” | “Bhasha” is being held on International Mother Language Day by the Kalanidhi Division and Academic Unit of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA). It honors and celebrates the linguistic diversity of India and delves into the richness of languages, scripts, and words that define our cultural heritage.The exhibition, which is located throughout the two major galleries, Darshanam I and II, as well as a vibrant interactive wall in the hallways, brings to life the spirit and significance of mother tongues and their delicate role in the slow growth of a civilization. The 22 quotes in the 22 scheduled languages of India that make up the Darshanam II gallery have been carefully chosen to highlight unique aspects of each language. Darshanam I, in conjunction with the corridor space, offers visitors an immersive and engaging experience. The display will stay up until February 29, 2024.
The Academic Unit of the IGNCA organized the exhibition “Akshar | Shabd | Bhasha” for the Kalanidhi Division of the IGNCA as part of the Division’s International Mother Language Day Celebrations. The exhibition’s goal is to highlight the value of mother languages and the necessity of preserving endangered languages.
Since its declaration on November 17, 1999, February 21 has been observed as UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day in an effort to raise awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity as well as multilingualism.
